Small enough that the person who scoped the work is the person who builds it — no layer of account management in between. Disciplined enough to still be here in ten years: profitability is a design constraint, not an aspiration.
And willing to say no — to scope, to clients, to work we cannot staff properly. It is what makes our yes worth something. Being lean is also a market position: it lets us serve the end of the market that larger firms cannot reach profitably.
